Film & Photography Location

Not satisfied with being the world's leading diver and ROV pilot training school, nor the best deep water, inland test facility for subsea technology there is, The Underwater Centre is becoming well known amongst international film makers as a fantastic location for underwater filming and photography.

Recently, Dutch TV company, Veronica came to The Underwater Centre as part of their series 'Fobiak' which focussed on careers that many people would be afraid to try. This film featured a complete novice, who'd never dived before, descending to the sea bed from our private pier with a team of our commercial divers.

This was followed by leading Swiss watch manufacturer, Oris, sending a team to Fort William to make a promotional film for their brand new diving watch. The week long shoot was supervised by specialist underwater cameraman Dan Burton. The film features footage of wet bell diving, underwater inspection and tools use, along with footage provided by the camera from one of our ROVs. All the footage was filmed at the dive sites surrounding our pier and includes a diver recovering a case containing the £2500 watch from a wreck. This final sequence was filmed in our 1.5M litre indoor tank.

There is easy access to both our private pier and dive tank complex. The tank also has a lighting grid and a selection of large viewing panels.

“The ease of access to both a controlled indoor underwater environment and to the sea-loch from The Underwater Centre’s own pier meant that we got all the shots we wanted with relative ease for our new advert. The flexibility of The Underwater Centre staff added to the experience and we are delighted with the outcome, showing professionals at work using our watches.”
