Extensive Equipment & Facilities

The Underwater Centre’s sheltered sea loch and experienced staff are further augmented by the extensive equipment and facilities available to you at The Underwater Centre.

Private Pier
Our private pier provides direct access into the loch, with a large surface working area, a number of buildings for work and storage, and its own electricity supply. A new pontoon has recently been established providing ease of access to the sea loch, along with two dive stations providing shallow water access, to depths of 20m.

Facilities and equipment available for use on the pier include drying rooms, two compartment decompression chamber, welding bays, a forklift, LP and HP diving compressors, mobile dive panel, Kirby Morgans, dry and hot water suits, umbilicals and hot water machine.

Newly installed cabins on the pier provide additional space for the mobilisation, launch and flying of ROVs. The new cabins have also provided additional drying rooms and a dedicated NDT station.

Dive Tank Complex
Our onshore, 1.5million litre, seawater dive tank is unique as a trials and training facility in the UK. Within the tank complex, there is extensive workshop and storage space, changing rooms, a number of classrooms, as well as easy access to the tank. The tank also benefits from large acrylic viewing panels on three sides, allowing you to observe, close-up your trial taking place in the tank.

Access to the tank can be from the walkway above from a central dive panel, or there is also access from a shallow pool at the rear of the tank. The equipment available for use in the dive tank complex includes a mobile dive panel, umbilicals, HP storage cylinders and an LP compressor.

Lodge
Our main lodge houses some of our offices, accommodation and our restaurant. Each office is equipped with a projector, flip chart, television and DVD player. WIFI access is available throughout the lodge.

En-suite accommodation is available in the lodge, which is only a few minutes walk from the pier and our dive tank complex. Accommodation is provided on a full-board basis, including a cooked breakfast, packed lunch and a choice from a selection of evening meals.

"The facilities and support here at The Underwater Centre have been ideal for the first UK sea trials of our flagship ROV, the FCV3000. The trials have been a great success and we hope to be back here next year."
