Starring Role for Higland Diving Centre

The Fort William based Underwater Centre provided the stunning background for a new promotional film by Oris Watches to support the launch of the company’s new ‘ProDiver Chronograph’.
Based at the edge of Loch Linnhe, the Centre is renowned in the oil and gas sector because of its unique facilities – close to the shore, the water depth is 50m and, within a mile, plummets to 150m, deeper than most of the North Sea.
World renowned underwater photographer, Dan Burton, was in charge of the filming which featured students and instructors from The Underwater Centre.
He took footage of wet bell diving, underwater inspection and tools used at dive sites surrounding the Centre’s pier complex. The culmination of the filming was a diver recovering a case containing the new Oris ProDiver Chronograph.
There are two distinct elements to The Underwater Centre – as well as providing a range of training courses for commercial diving and remotely operated vehicles (ROV), it also provides testing facilities for new generation technology.
The sheltered environment means that activity at the Centre is not weather dependent and can take place all year round.
Dougie Ormiston, marketing manager for The Underwater Centre, said the advertising campaign will showcase the Centre’s fantastic facilities.
“The beauty of Loch Linnhe is that the water is really deep very close to the shore so the camera crew were able to get some fabulous underwater shots.” The fact that we are in such a sheltered location meant that the filming schedule was able to go ahead without any disruption.
“The crew used our 1.5M litre custom made acrylic pool to film the final scenes.
“Initially it seemed a strange request, being that we are focussed mainly on providing facilities and services for the oil and gas sector but it’s great to see that as well as being a leading industry resource, we are obviously attractive to prestigious brands such as Oris too.”
